He took my place ~ Julie

I love to read Ann Voskamp’s blog.  She is the author of the book One Thousand Gifts, which has been on the NY Times best seller list for quite some time, I believe.  Reading her blog is like getting to continue reading the book again and again.  Matthew teases me because I’m always forwarding her blog posts to him or telling him something that she said.

I often read her blogs and want to re-post them here, but today I really am going to.  She shared the story of a man in Auschwitz who took the place of another man condemned to die.  Please do take time to read the story, (there is also a part 2 that she includes the following day if you are interested) although be prepared to be transported outside of your comfort zone and challenged about what loving Jesus really looks like.

I was challenged on so many levels as I read this amazing true account of sacrifice and love and faith.

But the thing that keeps bringing me to my knees before the Lord is that He took MY place.

You took my place

And died a death of shame

You took my place

And bore His wrath upon Your frame

Now every breath is grace

And every day a gift…

I deserved to die

But you gave me life.

What do I give You in response?

My whole life.
